Kane came off at half-time in their Champions League play-off second leg against Celtic in midweek with a calf complaint, a few days on from missing training after taking a blow to the face at Bayer Leverkusen. Now, manager Kompany has said this is a "short-term situation" for the 31-year-old, without stating if he will miss any Bayern matches.

    WHAT VINCENT KOMPANY SAID

He told reporters, via Sky Germany: "We'll see. It's good that we're not talking about two, three, four weeks, but about a short-term situation. We'll have to wait and see.

"It would not be the first time we have had to solve this this season. We can never replace Harry [Kane] one-to-one. There are not many players who score 40 or 50 goals in the season. We will try to find the best solution to win the game."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kane is such a key player for Bayern, with the England captain scoring a whopping 73 goals in 76 appearances for the German giants. Getting him back fit will be key to their chances of winning silverware this season after a trophyless 2023/24 campaign.
